Why glass fiber wounded filters work at high temperature and high viscosity ?

Glass fiber wounded filters

Puerwound GF Series – Glass Fiber String Wound Filter Cartridge

glass fiber wounded filters – The Puerwound GF series glass fiber string-wound filter cartridge is designed for superior control of particulate contamination in high-temperature and chemically aggressive high viscosity liquids.

It is manufactured using premium glass fiber yarn wound in a precise honeycomb structure over a stainless steel 304 or 316 spiral tube.

The cartridge features a graded density depth filtration design, with:

  • A low-density outer layer for capturing coarse particles and reducing pressure drop
  • A progressively tighter inner layer for fine particle retention

Each layer of glass fiber wounded roving contributes to true depth filtration, effectively trapping particles throughout the cartridge thickness rather than only on the surface.

Why Purewound filters work at high temperature?

Metal Inner Core

No melting, softening, or degradation at elevated temperatures

No binder or polymer that breaks down

NO Thermal Swelling

Pore size stays stable

Filtration accuracy is maintained

High thermal shock resistance

Can handle rapid temperature changes without cracking

Why they work with high-viscosity fluids?

Rigid pore structure

  • High viscosity means high pressure drop
  • Rigid filters don’t collapse or blind easily

Lower flow resistance geometry

  • Wedge-wire / mesh designs have:
  • Straight-through flow paths
  • Large open area
  • Less tortuosity

Surface filtration (not depth)

  • Thick fluids struggle to penetrate deep media
  • Surface filters allow:
  • Easier flow
  • Easier cleaning

Purewound advantages for viscous, Hot fluids

Can be cleaned by backflushing or burning off residue

Withstand high differential pressure

Reusable → lower operating cost

Compatible with oils, polymers, resins, bitumen, molten materials
